Local Sightings is a showcase of new films from the Northwest that puts homegrown talent in front of Seattle audiences and connects artists from Alaska to Oregon in a celebration of film from the region. Produced every year by Northwest Film Forum, the festival features new films, parties, juried prizes and film conversation. Screenings are only part of the story: artist talks, performances and networking events held throughout the week allow film lovers and filmmakers to explore local creativity together. In 2012, Seattle Weekly called Local Sightings the “best film festival” in Seattle.

The Makoshika team is thrilled to screen at the first annual Covellite International Film Festival in Historic Uptown Butte, Montana.

Richland County and the community of Sidney play substantial roles in the Makoshika story. Former MonDak Heritage Center Executive Director, Benjamin Clark, guides viewers through the history of boom and bust in the region. The Center was also instrumental in providing historical photographs for use in the film.

Each March in Washington, DC, we host the largest environmental film festival in the United States, presenting more than 100 films to an audience of over 30,000. Often combined with thematic discussions and social events, our films screen at museums, embassies, libraries, universities and local theaters. Many of the screenings are free, and all are open to the public.

The Babcock Theatre in Billings, Montana was first built in 1907 and features 750 seats between the main floor and the balcony. The two-story building covers one quarter of a city block in the center of downtown Billings, Montana. Extensive internal and external restoration has given this beautiful theater a facelift while maintaining its historic character—the flashing marquee, the restored facade, and elegant turn-of-the-century details are impossible to miss. 

The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival has become the largest cinema event in Montana and the premiere venue for non-fiction film in the American West. The festival draws an audience of 20,000 and receives over 1400 film entries from every corner of the globe. BSDFF offers a unique setting for filmmakers to premiere new work and for audiences to see innovative new films, as well as classics in the genre. BSDFF hosts over 100 visiting artists, and screens an average of 140 nonfiction films annually at the historic Wilma Theater, The Top Hat, The Roxy Theater, and Crystal Theater in downtown Missoula.

The Northwest Tracking programs showcase the work of independent filmmakers living and working in the Northwest—Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington—whose work reflects the vibrant cinematic culture of the region. Whether presenting single artist retrospectives, new features, documentaries, or inspired collections of short works, Northwest Tracking offers testimony to the creativity and talent in our flourishing media arts community.
